The seeds of the Final Four, the Lady Eagles of the Ateneo de Manila University, were shaken in the first attempt to return to the finals after an absence of one year.
After dominating for a good part of the season, the Lady Eagles did not survive a grueling five-game match against the Lady Tamaraws of FIRE.
Fortunately for Ateneo, they had gained a two-time advantage and made a final shot on Wednesday.
Ateneo head coach, Oliver Almadro, has generally asked reporters to miss out on the interviews. His players were also always in a good mood after the match, but were also unavailable for interviews.
"I still have no doubt" Almadro told the crowd of journalists gathered in front of the SM Mall of Asia shopping mall canoe.
Ateneo's defeat is the first of their history in five sets, having won the previous two victories. They also won their sets easily in two-digit modes.
But receptions and attacks on quality services were sporadic for the Katipunan-based program. Ateneo, the best team to block the playoff round, was also blocked 10-8.
Ateneo had 17 aces at the top of the season, but also lost 11 of FEU.
