Attention crypto engineers: Jack Dorsey wants you, ready to pay the Bitcoin salary
On Wednesday, March 20, Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter and Square, announced that the FinTech Square start-up was hiring four full-time "crypto engineers" to "work full-time on open source contributions to the bitcoin ecosystem." / crypto "and method for explaining why.
Dorsey has been a big fan of crypto in general and Bitcoin especially for quite some time now, and it was not the first time he spoke publicly about crypto. For example, here's what he tweeted on December 30, 2016:
Bitcoin: We tried this with our e-commerce store many years ago. I did not see much. I would love to see a digital currency thrive

On May 16, 2018, according to Bloomberg, at the 2018 consensus conference, he had this to say about Bitcoin:
"Internet deserves a local currency; he will have a local currency. I do not know if it will be Bitcoin or not, but I hope that will be the case. "
More recently, on February 1, during an interview with Joe Rogan (episode # 1236 of the podcast "Joe Rogan's Experience"), Dorsey reiterated that he believed that bitcoin would eventually become the "national currency" of the Internet:
"So, back to the Internet, I think that the Internet will have a native currency. It will have a local currency, and I do not know if it is Bitcoin, and I think that it's a bit different. he will do it [be] considering all the tests she has undergone, the principles that underlie it, the way it was created … It's something that was born on the Internet, which was developed on the Internet, that was tested on the Internet. This is the Internet … And the second thing is that we would like to see something become a global currency. This allows more access. It allows us to serve more people. This allows us to move much faster in the world. "
Dorsey's most recent words about crypto appeared on Wednesday, March 20, when he started with a tweet that looked like an offer of employment:
#BitcoinTwitter and #CryptoTwitter! Square hires 3 or 4 crypto engineers and 1 designer to work full time on open source contributions to the bitcoin / crypto ecosystem. Work from anywhere, report directly to me, and we can even pay you in bitcoin! Presentation @SqCrypto. Why?

He then explained that he had reached that decision as a result of a conversation last week with Square's Mike Brock, who leads the strategic development of the Cash app, during which Brock had told Dorsey that the best way to help the cryptographic community was: by improving the cryptographic ecosystem:
Last week, I was thinking about my hack week project and @brockm: "What is the most powerful thing we can do for the bitcoin community?" His answer was simple: "Pay people to improve the wider crypto ecosystem." It immediately resonated in me, so we do it.

Dorsey went on to point out that even though Square was going to hire these crypto-engineers and pay them, there is no indication that they were motivated by Square's business interests and that, whatever their contribution, their contribution will be open and free. . :
This will be Square's first open source initiative, independent of our business objectives. These people will focus entirely on what is best for the cryptographic community and individual economic empowerment, not Square's business interests. All work will be open and free.

Dorsey thinks this initiative gives ("modestly") to the open source community:
Square has taken a lot of the open source community to bring us here. We have not done enough. It's a small way to give back, which is in line with our broader interests: a more accessible global financial system for the Internet.
– jack (@jack) March 20, 2019
And here's how he claimed his love for blockchain technology and the crypto community:
I love this technology and this community. I found it deeply principled, goal-oriented, pissed off, and … really weird. Just like the beginning of the internet! I am happy to learn more directly.

The idea of Dorsey was greeted by a thunderous applause. Here are some of the reactions:
Thanks Jack, it's awesome

Binance's Managing Director, Changpeng Zhao ("CZ") also joined the conversation by saying that Binance is happy to pay its employees in Bitcoin (BTC) or Binance Coin (BNB):
Failsafe, just in case you do not get along with your future boss, @ binance hiring too. I will not report to me, but we can pay in BTC or #BNB. Thank you for applying on the homepage of Binance. https://t.co/EtPD2bFzOK
