In a strong statement made on the occasion of the first celebration of the day, the PCP said that the Akufo-Addo government was only seeking to "raise their defeated ancestors beyond what". they were and what they were really in the first political conflicts of the country "with August 4th vacation.
President Nana Akufo-Addo last year pbaded a bill in Parliament to amend the 2001 Holidays Act to celebrate the Founder's Day, August 4, in memory of successive generations whose contribution liberated Ghana from colonial rule.
As a result, Parliament pbaded a new Public Holidays Act, 2018, which introduced new holidays, including 21 September, celebrated as Founder's Day and Republic Day, on 1 July.
September 21 was commemorated for the first president of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, for his pivotal role in the struggle for independence of the country, March 6, 1957.
The government explained that August 4 was becoming a holiday because the real struggle for independence began on August 4, 1947.
It was, he said, the days of Ghanaian patriots like George Alfred Grant, JB Danquah, Awoonor-Williams RA, Edward Akufo-Addo, Ebenezer Ako Adjei and some leaders formed the Gold Coast United Convention (UGCC) on the founding of the 1868 Fante Confederacy and the 1897 Indigenous Peoples Rights Society for the Independence of Ghana.
Some critics have condemned the Akufo-Addo government, claiming that he had made the rewrite of Ghana's history a projection of his relatives and party members.
In a statement signed by Acting Secretary General of the CPP, James Kwabena Bomfeh Jnr, the party promised to "reveal the emptiness of the celebration" because, baderting that the Akufo-Addo government "weighs on the Ghanaians [is] without merit or motive whatsoever ".
He argued that August 4, Founders' Day, was the only party in Ghana's history that "can not be linked directly or remotely to the reason for its declaration."
"Ghana, as we know it today, was convened on 3 August 1956 and 7 February 1957 in a unitary state with a unicameral parliament composed of four separate territories, through two legislative instruments adopted respectively by the Legislative Assembly of the Gold Coast and the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. in the Ghana Independence Act, 1957.
"The man at the forefront of these key instruments was the indefatigable and sagacious Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in whose honor the oldest Ghanaian currency bore the inscription: KWAME NKRUMAH. CIVITATIS GHANEENSIS CONDITUR; meaning, Kwame Nkrumah, founder of the Ghana Nation, "he said.
It is on this basis, said CPP, the first independent legislature of Ghana, established on 21 September, the founding day of the founder, with the adoption of the 1958 law on holidays and banking, 22 March 1958 .
According to the PPC, other contributors such as Elmina's Nana Kwamina Ansah (1471), Anton Wilhem Amo (PhD, 1703-1759), Jacobus Elisa Johannes Capitein (PhD, 1717-1747), King Aggrey , King Ghartey, George Paa Grant, Joseph Boakye Danquah, Imoru Egala, Simon Diedong Dombo, Sgt. Adjetey, cap. Attipoe and Pte. Odartey Lamptey, Issa Kanjaga and Nii Kwabena Bonne were all celebrated on 21 September.
The PCP said that even though the Akufo-Addo government had used its figures in parliament to institute the August 4th holiday, it will not be easy with the celebration of this event.
"The high number of members of the president's party in Parliament might have allowed them an easy pbadage of the bill [to make August 4 Founders’ Day] but they would not have an easy party outside Parliament, "said the CPP.
He added that the party would be fighting around the world because "no spurious tinkering with Ghana's established history would be left unchallenged".
