An Australian woman fell from a cliff to her death on Saturday after trying to take a photo at the precarious location.
Rosy Loomba, 38, was with her husband and child when the crash happened in Grampians National Park in the Australian state of Victoria, according to CNN affiliate Nine News.
They were at Boroka Lookout, an overhang next to the cliff that offers panoramic views of the mountains and the city below.
Police said Loomba went through security gates and warning signs, to pose on a rock for a photo when she tripped over the edge, falling more than 80 meters (about 262 feet) onto the cliff , according to Nine News.
Witnesses heard Loomba screaming, but could not help him. Police and state emergency services worked six hours to climb the cliff and retrieve his body.
The observation deck was closed all afternoon during the recovery process, but was reopened to the public at 10 p.m.
The belvedere is a particularly popular photo spot; a quick search for the location tag on Instagram shows dozens of photos showing people at the edge of the cliff with their legs dangling over the edge or balancing on a narrow rock near the edge.
A few even filmed themselves backflipping from the edge.
Local guide Graham Wood told Nine News he warned his patrons of the lookout just half an hour before Loomba fell.
“I made a comment to my clients that this (people crossing the barrier) happens all the time,” he said.
“And one of these days someone’s going to fall. I am sad that this has happened.
In the process, authorities reminded the public to obey safety signs and guidelines, and that no photo is worth a person’s life.
“We cannot demarcate every part of Victoria,” said Police Minister Lisa Neville. “People have to take responsibility.”
