SYDNEY, Aug.5 (Reuters) – The Australian state of New South Wales on Thursday reported five deaths and 262 locally acquired COVID-19 cases, up from 233 a day earlier, as numbers continued to rise despite the fact that the state capital Sydney is approaching six weeks in a hard lockdown.
Of the new cases, at least 43 spent time in the community while infectious, the state health department said.
