We love the latest MCU movie, but we also have a ton of questions – and some answers – about it.

Complete spoilers follow for Avengers: Endgame! If you have not seen the movie yet and do not want to know what's going on, jump into your Quinjet and get out of here right away …

The culmination of 11 years of Marvel films has arrived and Avengers: Endgame does not disappoint … to ask a lot of questions! Yeah, yes, yes, it does not disappoint either to give fans a tremendous boost from the first decade of shared MCU mythology. But again, a lot of questions too!

Describe the most important and disconcerting excerpts of the film and explain some of them along the way …

Who was the Mystery Kid at Tony Stark's funeral?

Tony Stark's lake funeral includes appearances by all surviving Avengers, Janet Van Dyne by Michelle Pfeiffer, Nick Fury by Samuel L. Jackson, Maria Hill by Cobie Smulders, Aunt May by Marisa Tomei, of Thunderbolt Ross of William Hurt … and a particularly remarkable teenager. he alone. But who is he?

A high-level source at Marvel Studios confirmed to IGN that this character was Harley Keener, who was Iron Man 3's little boy – and that he was again played by Ty Simpkins, who had grown up a bit since the last time we've seen it! The funeral scene brought together all the characters whose lives have been directly touched by Tony Stark in the last 21 films. It goes without saying that the young Harley would like to pay tribute to the superhero who saved his life and encouraged him to take an interest in mechanics. . Learn more about Harley Keener's return to the MCU here.

How does the trip in time in the MCU work?

This one is not so easy to answer. While the Avengers actually use time travel to cancel Decimation from Infinity War, it's a bit confusing to see how their antics in the past affect their timeline. Or the deadlines, as the case may be.

Professor Hulk and the Elder explain that we should not just go back in time and change the past to change the future. But when certain feats of their time travel have changed certain moments of their history, it seems that divergent deadlines have formed. For example, when young Loki escapes with Tesseract after the Battle of New York, this seems to create a new timeline, even though the MCU's "main" timeline remains intact. Is Gamora alive?

In short, yes. And no. The Gamora who was killed when her adoptive father, Thanos, threw her to death on Vormir to secure the Soulstone remains dead at the end of the match. This is the Gamora we follow since the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. TEAR.

But in Endgame, when the Avengers date back to the time of the Guardians 1, the Gamora of that era – who have not even met yet the other Guardians – are heading towards his future, which is the "present" of Endgame 2023. Her story at that time differs from that of original Gamora and at the end of the battle with Thanos, she seems to be still alive, if she misses it, with Peter Quill looking for her on the computer from Benatar. Maybe the plot of Guardians Vol. 3 will involve looking for this version of Gamora.

Could the black widow still be alive?

Black Widow is unfortunately sacrificed to get the soul stone in Endgame, but we also know that she has a solo film in the works starring Scarlett Johansson! So how does it work?

When Hulk restores all those who were lost in the Decimation with his snap, he also tries to bring back Natasha, but that does not work. It seems that when a soul is exchanged for the soul stone, it is a permanent agreement that even the combined Infinity Stones can not cancel. No refund on Vormir, alas. See also: The original Gamora. So, maybe the movie Black Widow will be a sequel, as they say?

Why can Cap Now lift Thor's hammer?

Captain America was able to revive the mighty Mjolnir in Endgame at the heart of a battle, even though he had only slightly stirred it in Age of Ultron. So what has changed?

According to fan theory, in The Winter Soldier, Cape learned that Bucky was the one who killed Tony Stark's parents. When this information was revealed at the end of the civil war, Cape confessed to Tony that he knew it but did not tell him. But keeping this toxic information secret is what made Cape Unworthy to lift the hammer in Age of Ultron … at least according to the theory. And since Cape Town confessed his mistake by confessing in the Civil War, it has restored his moral purity and made him worthy of the end of the game!

What year is it now in the MCU? And why are Peter Parker and Ned still in the same school?

At the end of Avengers: Endgame, we are in 2023. That's five years after the War of Decimation in Infinity, which took place in 2018. So we have a way to make up the MCU!

As for Peter and Ned, who meet emotionally at the end of the film, it's a little strange that the two children are still in the same school if five years had pbaded. Ned should not have graduated now? Unless it is also photographed? But then why are they so emotional? Perhaps the only thing "to be saved from everlasting forgetfulness" was enough to give them the sensation. Just.

How did Captain Marvel find Tony Stark?

This one has confused some of your loyal members of IGN. At the beginning of the finals, we see Tony Stark and Nebula getting lost in the space without fuel for the Benatar, without food, without water and soon without air. And when all hope seems lost, Captain Marvel arrives and brings them home!

But how did she find them? Well, it looks like Captain Marvel's end-movie scene – where Carol first met the Avengers at their headquarters after responding to Nick Fury's signal – went off-screen in Endgame. With already three hours of operation, why rehash it anyway? So maybe the Avengers (and mostly Rocket and Thor, probably) were able to direct Carol to where they thought Tony might be lost … "on the way back from Titan," call it that. Or maybe Pepper Potts was receiving signals from Tony's helmet that he was recording, giving Captain Marvel a lighthouse at home!

Is Loki still alive and where is Tesseract now?

This one is similar to the Gamora question above. The Loki who was killed by Thanos at the beginning of Infinity War remains dead. But there is also the Loki who escapes with the Tesseract during the attempt of Tony Lang and Scott Lang to seize the Tesseract just after the Battle of New York. What's up with him?

This brings us back to the time travel issues surrounding the film. It seems that a divergent time line was created at that time, the one where this young Loki is free after the New York battle, thus canceling the events (or his involvement in them) in Thor : The Dark World, Ragnarok and Infinity War. . This also opens the possibility for Loki to get a Disney + Streaming Stream that we already know is happening! But how does this alternative Loki reality interact with the rest of the clbadical MCU chronology is unclear at the moment?

Any other questions

Here are some other questions that came to mind when we watched the movie:

  • How does Cape bring the stones so easily back in time, including bringing them back to their previous states (Tesseract, Aether, Loki's scepter, Orb) – without forgetting to make the soul stone … ghostly red skull? How it works?!
  • Where did Valkyrie get her winged horse?
  • How exactly is the world adjusting to the reintroduction of 50% of its population after five years?
  • Why could not they bring Tony back to life before rendering the stones?
  • Why did not Captain Marvel bring the (remaining) armies of Nova Corps or Kree? Skulls?
  • Did the former elder live in Bleeker Street at the time? Dr. Strange met her for the first time at Kamar-Taj.
  • Where the hell was the goose?
