Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga said that he was going to challenge a court order directing MTN to forward its recordings to Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu.
On January 22, the SP obtained an order from a court of first instance in Accra regarding the recording of Mr. Ayariga's telephone conversation following a conversation with an officer of Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA)..

According to Mr. Ayariga, he allegedly transmitted his MTN call recordings to the SP if the request had been made directly and not by an "order too broad".
He said: "I, Mahama, Ayariga would gladly have personally handed over my MTN call recordings to Mr. Martin Amidu, if he had just asked me directly, so he will see that I have not never called Mr. Kwasi Gyimah-Asante's phone, I still do not know who Kwasi Asante-Gyimah is.
"However, I think that in order to clarify the law protecting the privacy of Ghanaian citizens' communications on mobile telecommunications platforms and to create appropriate precedents, the breath of the court decision should be subject to legal control I have therefore instructed my lawyers accordingly. He also advised MTN to explore all legal avenues before publishing customer phone records.
The SP accuses Ayariga of frustrating probe
In August 2018, Mr. Amidu stated that Mr. Ayariga had attempted to stop an investigation into corruption and corruption-related cases.
