Mahama Ayariga – Member of Parliament, Bawku Central and Mr Martin Amidu – Special Prosecutor
Special Prosecutor (SP), Martin Alamisi Amidu, and Bawku Central Member of Parliament (MP) Mahama Ayariga are about to embark on a legal battle after the SP has obtained an order from court for registration of the MP's call.
On January 22, 2019, Mr. Amidu obtained from the Accra Court of First Instance an order directing the mobile operator, MTN, to disclose the minutes of a conversation that Mr. Ayariga would have had with an officer of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) from December 1, 2018 to January 6, 2019.

However, the MP, in a statement, pledged to challenge the court order stating, "I have instructed my lawyers accordingly".

Why the SP wants the call recordings
It is believed that Mr Amidu wishes the call records to be part of the investigations into what he qualifies as "allegations of" corruption and corruption-related commission, including the abuse of public functions for profit "by Mr. Ayariga.
In a statement released last August, the SP had revealed that Mr Ayariga, former Minister of Science, Environment, Technology and Innovation of the previous government, was under investigation about the Alleged bribery agreement relating to the importation of Toyota Landcruiser V8 vehicles. .
Mr. Amidu accused Mr. Ayariga of having sent personal friends, former colleagues, chiefs, pastors, among others, to beg him (Amidu) to stop the investigations against him. (Ayariga).
He further stated that he had reported the Bawku Central MP to the Bureau of Organized and Economic Crime (EOCO) for attempting to block an investigation into the acquisition of three used Toyota Landcruiser V8 white vehicles after refused to honor an invitation from EOCO.

Therefore, I endeavored to write to the Speaker of Parliament, with a copy to the Honorable Mahama Ayariga (the suspect), in my letter of June 26, 2018 to release the suspect and report it to EOCO on 3 July 2018.
