Two Ghanaian citizens have asked President Akufo-Addo to extend the mandate of the inquiry commission of Judge Emile Short, who was investigating the incident involving a by-election at Ayawaso West Wuogon.

Eric Nartey Yeboah and Yussif Ibrahim Bangsua have urged the president to include other by-elections held in the past and characterized by violence.

In their 11 petitions addressed to the President, as seen by DGN Online, the petitioners expressed doubts about the commission's ability to prevent the elections from taking place under the sign of violence given the commission's mandate.

The petitioners referred to the by-elections of Wulensi, Talensi, Akwatia and Atiwa as the basis for violence in the by-elections in Ghana. They must be part of the commission's mandate to address the causes of violence related to by-elections in Ghana.

According to the petitioners, the victims of the previous by-elections have been severely discriminated against, the perpetrators also remaining unpunished.

"It is in the interest of the state, of unity and peace to put an end to all election-related violence and that is why the creation of a Inquiry commission is essential in the circumstances, but the limited nature of the commission's mandate would leave the country more easily. wounded than healed, "they said.

The three-member Commission will continue its public hearings on the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election today.

The shooting killed six people on Thursday, January 31, 2019.
