It has been alleged that members of the "National Democratic Congress (NDC) murderer" militia group, the "Hawks", were in the residence of the NDC candidate in the by-election in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.
They are thought to be among the people who provoked the shooting that took place at the residence of the NDC candidate, Delali Kwasi Brempong.
Colonel Michael Kwadwo Opoku, Director of Operations for National Security, informed the inquiry commission of Judge Emile Short about the shooting of the electoral campaign of the constituency of Ayawaso West Wuogon on January 31, 2019.
The incident reportedly left six people injured that day in elections won by NPP candidate Lydia Seyram Alhbadan.
The director is appearing today before Judge Emile Short's Commission, on February 20, to testify to the circumstances that led to the shooting of January 31, 2019 during the by-election.
He said in particular that the president of the 'Hawks' was in the residence that day and that other members of the NDC were also at the residence.
According to the report that had been submitted to him until now, the Hawks and other CND members present at the residence reportedly started throwing stones at the Special and Tactical Weapons Team (SWAT) who had gone to the residence after learning that some weapons were being kept at the residence of the NDC candidate.
He added that the throwing of stones resulted in firearms being fired and that the SWAT team fired six shots of their AK47.
