Thakwani said Ghana is becoming self-sufficient and that the government should look for ways to secure the local farmers' market, either by increasing taxes on imported products or by banning the import of these products.
He also urged the government to review the high utility rates imposed on manufacturing companies such as B5 Plus Limited.
The projections
In the short term, Thakwani said B5 Plus Limited is building the largest steel fabrication plant under the government's flagship 1D1F program.
Once completed, the mega plant will have the capacity to serve the Ghana and West Africa subregion by producing various steel products.
"Thanks to this project in a few months, we will be able to install Ghana in the construction industry," he said.

Mr Thakwani said that more than 5,000 people would get a job directly and indirectly with the opening of the manufacturing plant in a few months.
"About 5,000 people will get a job. At present, 1,200 people work directly on this site and indirectly, more than 1,000 people work. With this new plant, more than 5,000 people will find jobs, representing a huge generation of jobs, "he added.
