Second Deputy Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin warned the public against the derogatory remarks made against members of Parliament following the decision to build a new 450-seat room.

According to the senior legislator of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), attacks on MPs and parliament "erode the pillar of democracy" in Ghana.

MP Nadowli / Kaleo made the comment when he commented on the proposed block of rooms with a capacity of 450 people as he chaired the meeting last Wednesday.

He said: "What is happening now erodes the pillar of democracy in the country that is Parliament – it is the pillar of democracy in this country – in fact, all over the world. We must be courteous, cautious and cautious. talking about Parliament and Parliament as an institution. I hope members will not contribute to this negativity. "

The decision to build a new chamber angered many Ghanaians who described the initiative as useless and debauched.

The 450-seat room will include a chapel, a mosque, a restaurant and a museum.

Professor Mike Ocquaye, Speaker of Parliament, said the government did not know how much the new complex would cost.

He revealed that the architecture firm headed by the UK-based British architect Sir David Frank Adjaye, Adjaye and Associate, had imposed a call for tenders before the two other companies design and build the structure. The exact cost of the project has not yet been determined.

Justifying the construction of the new chamber, the majority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah, said that the house of parliament should avoid fights between its members.

According to him, the current chamber is not spacious enough for parliamentarians because of the incendiary nature of their debates.
