Bagbin and Professor Alabi Say Seals on Bullet Bags Containing Bulletins Have Been Forged
Two candidates for the presidency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the opposition, allege that seals on bags containing ballots for the party's presidential primaries have been falsified.
This claim from the Alban Bagbin campaign teams and Professor Joshua Alabi comes just 24 hours before the presidential primaries that will be held Saturday in constituencies across the country.
Thousands of NDC members are expected to vote to choose among the seven people who intend to lead the party in 2020.
But the Bagbin and Prof Alabi camps suspect a criminal act even before the opening of polling stations.
The candidates allege that this bag and many others have been falsified
In an interview with Top FM, Bagbin expressed his disappointment at the turn of events, saying that all the promises made by party leaders had not yet been kept.
According to him, "the seals that were placed on the voting bags – the seals of the candidates" were broken before their arrival in the region. All the seals were broken. This means that they have been tampered with and our representatives have raised issues about it. "
MP Nadowli-Kaleo said that he would participate in the elections until the end but "If the process is so compromised that it will tend to invalidate the election results, we will definitely appeal to Justice."
The spokesman for Professor Alabi's campaign team, Richard Quashigah, corroborates the Vice President's story.
This, under normal circumstances, what bags should look like
He added that his team members also found seals broken on the bags.
"It is clear that the process is impaired and that it does not create an even playing field for the seven candidates," he added.
Mr Quashigah said the team had also been informed that seals of bags sent to the East, Central and Ashanti regions had all been broken before they arrived at their destination.
He also states that when the regional election officials were informed of the disturbing developments, they ignored the protests of his team members.
"They then repackaged the ballots in brown envelopes and then distributed them to different constituencies in tomorrow's polls.
"It is perfectly clear that tomorrow's elections will not be free and fair," he added.
Like Mr. Bagbin, he states that his candidate will follow the process and only take the necessary steps if he is convinced that the results are not what they should be.
Both candidates also claimed that more ballots than expected had been printed.
According to them, although the party leaders said that the surplus ballots would be shredded, they were not shredded. They were all sent to different constituencies.
