Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin called for prayer and the spirit of sacrifice among Ghanaians as Muslims mark the celebration of Eid al-Adha.
In a message to mark the day, Alban Bagbin said: “During this solemn period, I urge all Muslims to pray for Ghana and the welfare of our people as you come together for common prayer. to mark this special day.
“I believe that as we approach Allah together in supplication, He will listen to our prayers to guide our dear country on the path of truth and righteousness.”
He noted that the country is going through a difficult time, adding that praying for the nation on this solemn occasion “will put us on the path of national reconstruction and restoration”.
“These are not the best times for our country. The challenges we have in the various aspects of the national effort are pronounced. Our economy needs an urgent boost if we are to experience growth and development. We have propagated a paradigm shift in the management of our economy, which never seems to materialize. We cannot continue on the path we are on now, with very little industrialization effort: it has not been useful.
“In our social environment, educational and health establishments are overloaded. The growth of our population, which I believe will be confirmed by the current population and housing census, has not seen a reciprocal attempt to improve health and education infrastructure. The result is there for all: the lack of hospital beds and schools under trees continues to be contested.
“On top of all this, Ghana remains strongly divided along political lines. We strive to find the political coloring of citizens who raise issues with the direction of our country, instead of discovering the reasoning and logic of the issues raised. We can’t go on like this. In addition, we see very few attempts to punish corruption and inefficiency within the political class, thus creating a perception of political hype at the highest level of the political superstructure of this country ”, he lamented. .
While calling on Muslims to imbibe the habit of sacrifice and love for one another as characterized by the Holy Prophet, Alban Bagbin said that Nigerians must remain united at all times to be able to face the challenges facing the country.
“The leaders of this country must make much more sacrifice as we work to resolve the many challenges we face. This is where my admiration for Eid al-Adha comes in: the spirit of sharing and sacrifice shown by the Islamic faithful during this period is legendary. This is especially towards the elderly, relatives and the poor in society. ”
