The Bank of Ghana supported the Korle Bu University Hospital Heart Center with 100,000 GH ¢ to support patients who could not afford the cost of treatment.

This amount is part of the voluntary contributions of the monthly salary of Bank staff to a health fund.

Ms. Gloria Quartey, Human Resources Manager at the Bank of Ghana, presented a check for the amount in question, saying the Bank has been a faithful partner of the Center since donations began in 1998.

She praised the good work and worthy contributions of the Center in the country's health care delivery system.

Dr. Lawrence Serebour, director of the National Heart Center, who received the check, expressed gratitude for the donation and described the growing number of heart and chest cases as a major challenge.

He expressed concern about the cost of cardiac surgeries, even though the current cost per patient is heavily subsidized.

He called on other companies to support the growing number of patients who can not afford the cost of care.
