The Acting Director General of the Ghana Police Service’s Public Affairs Branch revealed that a bank employee was arrested in connection with a recent bank robbery.
ACP Kwasi Ofori told the JoyNews host of Newsfile on Saturday that an arrest was made “yesterday [Friday] in Accra, involving a bank employee not necessarily a bank employee… we arrested him, and a lot has happened in that regard.
He said they have already started meeting with banks regarding security arrangements for customers who come to do business.
A security analyst at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center (KAIPTC) Professor Kwesi Aning, who was also on the show, said it was time for banks to start interviewing their staff on flights involving them.
He believes that orderly checks should be carried out on corporate and personal electronic devices used by workers there to assess information that could have helped such crimes, if at all.
The director of academic affairs and research faculty at KAIPTC maintains police and banks must adopt stringent security measures to determine the culpability of bank workers in incidents of theft from people who may have done business in their areas. facilities.
There have been reports of at least four daylight robberies in parts of the capital this week. In one case, the thieves opened fire, leaving a passerby with gunshot wounds.

Commenting on the development on Newsfile on Saturday, Professor Aning said, “This lady who took money out of the bank, how did the criminals know he had money on her? Do we pick up people at that particular bank, check their laptops and phone records, or if there is any compromise of such sensitive customer information. “
He added: “There are some really crucial questions that need to be asked to make sure that we or those who use banking services have the backgrounds of bank staff checked, secured and also regularly rechecked because than [this kind of crimes] raises serious fundamental questions because of the way this gang-style operation was conducted.
The police department said it was urgently implementing additional security measures in the Greater Accra region to combat an apparent increase in theft cases.
ACP Kwesi Ofori said police have advised banks to tell their customers to adopt over-the-counter service when dealing with cases involving huge sums of money.
“We also talk to the banks to find out who is entering the banking hall. Do they have something to do at the counter and are they coming for a service? Often times we find well dressed people inside the bank watching what is going on even when there are notices everywhere that it is not allowed, ”he noted.
