A versatile midfielder

Born May 5, 1997 in Arkel (Netherlands), Frenkie de Jong is one of Europe's most promising midfield talents. Just 21 years old, he joined FC Barcelona after proving that he was a versatile player, with excellent play of the game and an ability to provide the killer pbad.

The Dutchman debuted in the academy Willem II, but after only a year in Tiburg, he drew the attention of Ajax, who signed it with the club in 2015. However he was loaned from Amsterdam to his former team to make sure he would have enough playing time to fully develop as a player. De Jong then returned to Ajax to lead his reserve team, Jong Ajax, in the Jupiler League.

A year later, he began receiving his first calls for the first team and participated in the final minutes of the Europa League final against Manchester United in 2017. From there, he became a regular starter and then a essential part of the Ajax machine.

From right foot to strong head-to-head, Frenkie de Jong can play as a defensive or offensive midfielder. His wonderful vision and natural ability to find the right pbad make him the perfect choice as a central game maker.

The latest addition to the Barça team fits into the long and successful tradition of the Dutch players, going as far as the great Johan Cruyff who arrived at the Camp Nou in 1973, and including some famous names such as Ronald Koeman, Patrick Kluivert. Frank de Boer and current team goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen.
