Umtiti has been struggling with a knee problem since the start of the season but has resumed training, separated from the first team on Monday.
According to Barcelona, Umtiti said that he "felt good about the injury" and hoped to "come back as soon as possible".
The absence of Umtiti has left the Barca to the central defense. They signed a loan from Valencia with Jeison Murillo this month, while the summer move by Jean-Clair Todibo to Toulouse should be announced.
Umtiti missed the months of October and November while a return to Atletico Madrid on November 24 was short-lived, as his knee still bothered him. He started a recovery program in Qatar in December and has since returned to Spain.
Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde said at the beginning of January: "We think that in a few weeks he will be able to resume training with the team, we will see how things are going."
If Umtiti is deemed fit, he could play for the Barca against Real Madrid in La Liga on 2 March.
