Roma want Barcelona defender Jean-Clair Todibo on loan
Jean-Clair Todibo will leave Barcelona after arriving from Toulouse in the January transfer window for a million euros. The club has already started studying possible credit movements for the young Frenchman, the Roma becoming the last contender.
Ajax has already shown interest in Todibo. Barça's contract with Matthijs de Ligt, captain of Ajax, could eventually allow Todibo to be loaned in the opposite direction. Such an approach would not be the first, the transfer of Paco Alcácer also involving the loan of Munir to Valencia.
Todibo must gain experience in Europe before becoming a full member of the team. He has played only 8 games in Ligue 1. Ajax is reputed to be a good club for player growth, while Roma also needs defensive reinforcements.
Juan Jesus has not been able to complete Kostas Manolas in Roma defense, while Federico Fazio is aging rapidly. Todibo would be a welcome addition to the troubled Serie A squad, which eliminated Barça from the Champions League in the quarter-finals last season.
Barça will not be able to welcome Todibo to the team, with the signing of Frenkie de Jong and the return of Samuel Umtiti. The departure of Thomas Vermaelen could open a place in the team, but the club could decide not to take this risk with such an inexperienced player.
The moves to both Roma and Ajax would be very beneficial for Todibo, who could replace Umtiti when he left. The winner of the World Cup will consider getting away from Camp Nou if Barça signs De Ligt in Ajax.
