Barcelona struggles to reach the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey

Barcelona canceled their 2-1 deficit in the first leg to beat Levante 4-2 and reach the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey.

Two fortuitous goals from Ousmane Dembele in the first half allowed Barca – the winner of the last four seasons cup – to win the best total at Nou Camp.

Lionel Messi scored his third goal, his seventh goal in five games.

However, Barca could be excluded from the competition after claiming to have lined up an ineligible player in the first leg.

Levante said that he would file a complaint with the Spanish federation because Barca defender Juan Brandariz should have served a suspension after receiving a yellow card while he was playing for Team B's Barcelona in division B of Segunda.

Barcelona said that a change in the rules, made in November, meant that the suspension would not apply to the Copa del Rey.

Real Madrid was excluded from the Cup in 2015 for lining up with Denis Cheryshev when he was not eligible.

Barcelona were still in control of the second leg against Levante despite the prospect of their first Copa del Rey debut in nine years.

Messi had a good chance of being saved before Barcelona took advantage when Erick Cabaco hit Dembele's shin and lobbed on Levante goalkeeper Aitor Fernandez.

A minute later, Fernandez inadvertently turned a Dembele chip into his own net during a dive to make a backup.

In the 54th minute, Dembele headed for Messi on the right before Argentina hit in the bottom corner.
