Barclays Bank Ghana, part of the Absa family, has joined the South African High Commission in Ghana to offer volunteer activities at the Osu Children's Home in Accra to commemorate the 10th anniversary celebration of Nelson Mandela Day.

Staff and volunteers from both organizations spent half of the day at the orphanage engaging in volunteer activities such as cleaning exercises, discussions about empowerment and social activities as a way to to show love to the children of the home.

The Nelson Mandela International Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly on July 18, 2009, in memory of Nelson Mandela's perpetual service to South Africa, Africa and the United Nations. world.

Priscilla Yeboah, head of citizenship at Barclays Ghana, said the event was aimed at encouraging children to emulate the life and heritage of Greater Madiba.

"As we celebrate Nelson Mandela Day, I want to encourage you to emulate the life and legacy of Grand Madiba. He was a man of peace. He defended humanity and respect for the African. He was a strong advocate of education, so I invite you all to take your education seriously and become a great person in Africa, "said Priscilla Yeboah.

His Excellency Thapelo Madumane, South African High Commissioner to Ghana, is inspired by Nelson Mandela's struggle for the liberation of social and economic oppression and his love for education as a weapon of change.

The High Commission subsequently donated items such as water boxes, food and soft drinks to the house.

Osu Children's Home Director, Christiana Addo, expressed her gratitude to both the High Commission of South Africa and Barclays Bank for showing a kind gesture towards the orphanage.
