Bat found in Lexington tested positive for rabies

LEXINGTON, KY. (WKYT) – A bat found in Lexington has been tested positive for rabies.

A rabies alert has been issued for Jackson County.

The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department said the bat was found in the Winding Drive and Willowood Road area in South Lexington.

The Ministry of Health has posted signs in the area to inform local residents. People are encouraged to make sure their pets have been vaccinated against rabies.

Homeowners are urged to carefully examine their homes and other structures to make sure that bats can not enter.

Bats active during the day or unable to fly may be suspected of rabies.
