Batman uses exactly the same tactics as his future state villains

DC’s Elseworlds story, Kingdom Come, showed a police state ruled by Batman. This is similar to the police state in Future State that Batman is fighting.

Batman is known to have excessive methods, and it seems that his Future state bad guys the magistrate took a lesson straight out of his book. kingdom come saw the Dark Knight use extreme tactics to maintain tight control over Gotham, even after retiring from mainstream hero work. He and Simon Saint’s Magistrate program use robots to patrol the streets of Gotham, but Batman never responds.

The Magistrate is a state robot police and law enforcement program that has taken over Gotham City with the mayor’s approval. This force was introduced in DC Future state event, which could become a reality depending on what is happening in the new Infinite border initiative. The magistrate is responsible for arresting the vigilantes, who have been outlawed. It is very reminiscent of the Elsewhere story, kingdom come.

Created by Mark Waid, Alex Ross and Todd Klein, kingdom come is a 1996 four-issue miniseries. It is set in an alternate future where the Justice League and other heroes take early retirement, particularly after a “hero” named Magog engages in questionable methods to save the day. Batman, however, is not fully retiring. His secret identity is revealed, his house is attacked by Bane and Two-Face, and his body suffers injuries, forcing him to wear an exoskeleton. In Batman style, however, he doesn’t let that stop him from trying to protect Gotham.

After the retirement of the Justice League and the usual heroes of the world, the next generation returns to the fight, but like Magog, they go to extremes. They become dangerous for people. As a result, Batman takes control of Gotham City and uses Bat-Knights to patrol the streets. It’s robots he controls from the Batcave that stop the criminals, turning Gotham into a sort of utopia that doesn’t appear to have rogue vigilantes rampaging inside. In a roundabout way, Batman’s Bat-Knights also ended self-defense work, in a different way, but quite similar to the Magistrate’s methods. However, the Magistrate was not as successful as Batman in this Elsewhere future.

In Future state As well as current Batman comics, the Dark Knight and Associates actively fight against the Magistrate and those who work alongside the program, such as Peacekeeper-01. In the hands of someone who is not Batman, robots like Cybers are dangerous and perceived to be misused. In the case of Batman inside Kingdom come, however, the Bat-Knights do make Gotham safer, though it comes at a cost. Superman points out that Batman is using fear to keep Gotham in line, but Batman replies that his citizens would trust him in Superman since Superman was not there. Additionally, Batman isn’t the only one using Bat-Knights, as he tells his old friend that the network he owns extends all the way to Star City, where he still has an ally in Green Arrow.

While this methodology veers into rather fascist territory, it’s ironic that Batman has a relatively positive impact with this when juxtaposed with the Magistrate Cybers program. It’s also ironic that the Dark Knight struggles with a methodology that – if used differently – he could very easily agree with in certain realities. If Gotham is safer for its citizens, Batman will use extreme methods to achieve that security when the going. On the contrary, this method in the hands of someone less experienced in protecting the city is a serious threat to get him shot. No matter how Future state turns out, fans can’t deny it Magistrate the patrols are very reminiscent of the Bat-Knights of kingdom come, a tool that Batman didn’t hesitate to use, even though it wasn’t in the main continuity.
