Ghana's vice-president, Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, begins an official visit to Cuba on Thursday with a tribute to Cuban national hero Jose Marti, at the Revolution Square in Havana.
Bawumia will also have official talks with Cuban Vice President Ines Maria Chapman, and attend a graduation ceremony for medical students at the Karl Marx Theater in Havana, in addition to other activities.
Cuba and Ghana will celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations in December, maintain friendly relations and encourage cooperation in areas such as agriculture, tourism, sports, education, science, technology and health.
Cuban medical collaboration with Ghana, the first country in sub – Saharan Africa to establish diplomatic relations with the island, began in 1983.
Nearly 20 Cuban health professionals work in Ghana and 458 young Ghanaians are studying in Cuba.
