Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia called on supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of Ayawaso West Wuogon to vote en mbade and vote overwhelmingly for Lydia Seyram Alhbadan, widow of the late MP for the region, Emmanuel Kyerementeng Agyarko, in the next by-election.

The by-election became necessary after the sudden death of Mr. Agyarko on November 21, 2018.
He reportedly died of gall bladder infection and the Electoral Commission (EC), chaired by Jean Mensa, set Thursday, January 31, 2019 as the date for the by-election.
Meanwhile, a certain Bismarck Aborbi-Ayitey filed a complaint against the EC in the Supreme Court, challenging the EC's decision to hold the January 31st by-election.
According to him, under section 112 (5) of the 1992 Constitution, a by-election is expected to take place 60 days after the declaration of vacancy of a seat.
