Rummenigge hinted that the club is still interested in signing Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Bayern has stepped up offers for Hudson – Odoi during the transfer in January and their interest in the English international has not diminished despite his Achilles tendon injury.

Expressing at an event organized by the German newspaper BildRummenigge said it was possible for Bayern to sue Sane and Hudson-Odoi once the window opened.

Bayern has made Sane, 23, who has been in and out of town this season, her No.1 transfer goal for the summer.

It is thought that Sane would like to return to Germany after arriving at City from Schalke in 2016.

It is likely that Bayern will play more regularly football given the departure of longtime players, Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, after the final of the German Cup against RB Leipzig on Saturday.

On Sane, he said, "We will try. I can not promise if it will succeed.

"We already had the idea when he was still with Schalke. But at that time, we had no place for him. Robben and Ribery were in the lead three years ago.

Asked who will try to persuade Sane to move, Rummenigge added: "That's what [sporting director] Hasan [Salihamidzic] Is.

"There have been no discussions so far. This is an interesting player, we will try.

Hudson-Odoi remains a secondary target for the German champions, but Rummenigge clearly wants to keep the option open.

He also hailed under-press coach Niko Kovac, unable to maintain Bayern's previous dominance over the Bundesliga.

They won the title in front of their rivals Borussia Dortmund on the last afternoon of the season last weekend.

Asked whether Kovac's future at the club depended on the outcome of Saturday's final against Leipzig, Rummenigge said: "It would be crazy to make it dependent on a match. It would be irresponsible.

"After the match in Dusseldorf, we said:" We will get there now and we will stand behind Niko Kovac. "

"And then we said we would sit down after the end of the season, badyze everything and then see how it goes. We still strongly believe in this.

He then added: "If I had a different opinion about Niko Kovac, [president] Uli Hoeness, then he would not be our coach.
