This was written in the wake of Germany’s loss to North Macedonia, so forgive me if it’s a bit inconsistent. As a fan of Bayern Munich and Germany, it’s actually hard to believe what’s going on with the national team right now.
Of course, this is a very diverse subject, so let’s get back to just one aspect of this garbage heap. With every game that passes, it becomes clear that Timo Werner is NOT the striker who was promised to Chelsea when they bought him from RB Leipzig. At the time of this transfer, some Bayern fans were upset that the board had actually let him go.
Now however, I think we can begin to see the reasoning behind the insanity.
Yes, Timo Werner really narrowly missed it from there. What’s crazy is that if you show this clip to a Premier League fan, they could probably point to another half-dozen huge duds Werner has had over the season. Since arriving at Chelsea, the 25-year-old has missed insane opportunities – just look at these r / soccer comments of his incredible lack against Leeds United.
Brazzo warned us about this. At the time, he told us that Bayern Munich didn’t want Werner, saying: “With his pace Timo Werner needs more space, just like he had in the system that Leipzig is playing. They may have changed their system, but it’s still not as strict for them offensively as it is for us. (Sport Bild via BuliNews)
Recently, it was reported that even Joachim Low was not evaluating the former RB Leipzig star, preferring Serge Gnabry up front with Havertz and Sane on the fenders. That’s pretty easy to believe, given what we’ve seen Werner produce for Germany so far – he’s nowhere near as prolific as he was at club level for RB Leipzig.
This essentially exposes the root of the problem. Timo Werner has always been a player in the system, and the system in which he operates exists only at RBL. With Chelsea and Germany, the poor man just can’t replicate his usual game, resulting in these hilariously eye-catching duds that end up trending on Twitter. Failures are just a symptom of an attacker completely adrift in the tactical sense – unable to function in a system that does not want him.
With this it becomes clear that Bayern Munich made the right decision to drop Werner last summer. He was never part of the system and he would have wrestled in Bavaria the same way he is fighting in England now. Thanks to Brazzo for holding on to his guns, looks like he got this one out.
