Alphonso Davies, the rising star of Bayern Munich, will miss Canada's next game against French Guiana after suffering a knee injury, confirmed Wednesday the German club.

Davies, 18, is expected to secure his tenth selection for Canada in the CONCACAF Nations League qualifier on March 24, but will remain in Munich this week to recover.

"Alphonso Davies was slightly injured in the right knee in the 6-0 win against Mainz and the medical department advised him to take a few days off," the club said in a statement posted on its website.

Davies, who made a $ 13 million move to Bayern from the Vancouver Whitecaps in January, scored his first goal for Bayern in the victory against Mainz last Sunday.

His performance on the bench earned him the praise of Bayern Sports Director Hasan Salihamidzic.

"Alphonso is a diamond, he shows it every day at training," Salihamidzic said.

"It is the future. It has qualities that we rarely see in the Bundesliga."
