VANCOUVER – British Columbia's health minister is urging people to get vaccinated for measles after the confirmation of a fourth case of the disease in Vancouver.

Adrian Dix says it is the responsibility of parents to ensure the immunization of their children and to think about the children of others who may be infected with the contagious disease.

He added that vaccination rates may be higher and that anyone needing additional information should contact local health authorities.

Vancouver Coastal Health reports that three measles cases were confirmed this week and that the first person tested positive contracted the infection outside of North America.

It is said that all cases concern three French schools, two of the schools are connected by a door and all use the same school bus company.

Health officials said that a case of measles confirmed last week was not related to current cases nor to epidemics in neighboring Washington state or Europe.
