The construction of the project, which began in 2007 and was abandoned after the 2008 elections when the government of the new patriotic party of President John Agyekum Kufuor, he said, is a commitment of his government for growth and the development of the fisheries sector.
The project to be executed by China Harbor and Engineering Company over a period of 30 months, and will include the construction of a breakwater, a wharf wall, dredging and ancillary facilities, President Akufo-Addo told the badembly that the project would be completed. in the time frame.
The president noted that the sod cutting ceremony was symbolic and that it marked the simultaneous start of the construction of other landing sites in Senya Beraku, Dixcove, Elmina, Moree, Mumford, Winneba , Gomoa Fetteh, Teshie and Keta.
"The promises I have made to the people of Ghana, I will realize them one after the other," he said.
The Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Elizabeth Afoley Quaye, also present at the event, said that "the completion of the landing site will help to increase fishermen's productivity by providing a safe place for docking canoes and handling fish. It will guarantee the safety of fishing gear and properties, improve the hygienic handling of fish and fishery products in accordance with international standards for export. "
In order to reinvigorate the aquaculture development agenda, the minister said adequate incentives were provided to boost private sector investment, delivery of quality extension services and input support.
"In 2018, for example, about 1,671 aquaculture establishments benefited from the provision of extension services, and in June of this year 1,370 institutions benefited from extension services," she said.
With the ministry currently piloting the flagship program Aquaculture for Food and Jobs in the Ashanti region, Hon. Elizabeth Afoley Quaye indicated that the implementation of the program should boost aquaculture production and create several direct and indirect jobs for youth.
