Dr Prosper Ladislas Agbesi, leading member and former presidential candidate of the New Congress Alliance (ANC) in the 2016 elections, reiterated his appeal to President Patrice Talon to step down to avoid a political bloodshed in Benin.

Speaking to media on Saturday in Accra, Dr. Agbesi, who is also president of the Alliance for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (ASDA), claimed that the National Assembly of Benin had lost its independence as a legislative body of the government and had been reduced to the president's private enterprise. Talon and had the habit of enacting laws favorable to the president, including extending the presidential term of office from five to six years.
ANC leaders have again called on the international community to intervene to stabilize the political crisis and avoid a bloodbath in the coming weeks.

Dr. Agbesi also warned that the current Beninese parliament would collapse in the next 10 days, specifying that the members of the National Assembly themselves would withdraw in 10 days as they understood that They had been victims of abuse against their own people.
"They think that they will see better what pushed them to allow themselves, but you know that Beninese people are honest people, so the honest people will resign and the Parliament collapse in 10 days."
Dr. Agbesi warned that the current situation did not seem favorable, stating that there could be a bloodshed as the armed security forces are mistreating civilians, saying that "the people of Benin have only weapons and ammunition of a moral character, the forces to which it opposes physical weapons and they will use them without constraint, because the president wants to control. "
He also accused President Talon of planning the badbadination of former president Yayi Boni of Benin with a poison while he was under house arrest and also accused him of "murdering" him. former leader of Benin who had defended Africa Unity to corrupt while taking control of state ports and tax enclaves.
Mr. Agbesi said that the President had let down the people of Benin and only wanted to control the state institutions and protect his own businesses while the mbades of the people suffered from abject poverty and abuse of violence.
The opposition leader, who said he was not interested in power if President Talon resigned, also called on the international community to impose sanctions on Talon to restore democracy in Benin.
He also called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria, former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Jerry John Rawlings and other African leaders to intervene to save the people of Benin.
Some Beninese nationals present at the press conference with placards said: "Our women and our children are dying We want democracy, the president of liberation, Yayi Bonni, Benin is for all of us, stop the mbadacre and many others. "
