Emmanuel Adebayor was unable to qualify for the CAN
Huddersfield forward Steve Mounie scored the goal of sending Benin to the 2019 African Cup of Nations after his 2-1 win over Emmanuel Adebayor's Togo in Cotonou.
During the last qualifying round, Benin obtained the points needed to qualify for Algeria in Group D and retain its place in Egypt 2019.
Benin opened the scoring against Togo in the 12th minute when David Djigla put the hosts in the lead.
Togolese veteran striker Adebayor, 35, gave hope to his country with a tying goal in the 72nd minute as his side sought victory.
The competition ended frantically and the host country disappointingly ended the Adebayor and Togo campaign as Mounie scored seven minutes from time to allow Benin to win.
Benin will participate in the finals of the Nations Cup for the first time since 2010.
The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations will be held for the first time in June and July and will have 24 teams instead of 16.
Also on Sunday, Zimbabwe and DR Congo qualified for the final, as did Tanzania, who beat off rivals Uganda 3-0.
In Bangui, he finished 0-0 between Central African Republic and Guinea in Group H, with two teams already eliminated.
