(Reuters) – Newcastle United need to relax in search of players who can unleash the full potential of the Premier League club, said director Rafa Benitez.
After leading Newcastle to a 1-0 league win at Leicester on Friday, Benitez said the club needed to be more competitive in the transfer market to get closer to the top six.
The Spanish contract with Newcastle ends in June and earlier disagreements with club owner, Mike Ashley, about the transfer strategy, have sufficiently frustrated him to consider his future at the Tyneside club more early this season.
"I'm trying to win titles everywhere, in different countries.We must have a team capable of competing," Sky Sports told former 58-year-old coach Liverpool, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.
"This city, the club has potential, it's huge, I'm not trying to spend 200 million pounds (261 million dollars), but to do what's right.
"You can do anything with your tactics, but the other team has a player who can make the difference.You will have to pay 30 million pounds to buy a player from Leicester."
Paraguay striker Miguel Almiron became Newcastle's signing record in January in an agreement that, according to British media, was worth about 21 million pounds.
The victory over Brendan Rodgers' team propelled Newcastle to 13th place with 38 points in 34 games. They will welcome Southampton in their next game next Saturday.
