As fans of the gaming world eagerly awaited a $ 530 million Mega Millions lottery jackpot on Friday night, two of Greenville's best friends were already sharing a jackpot won last month, using a new system to buy tickets.

Ronnie Couling and Brandon Maynard recently claimed US $ 50,000 to play Powerball with Jackpocket, an application that allows players to buy their tickets via their phones.

"I play texas lottery regularly, but I do not like going to the store, ever," said Couling.

Maynard and him put their lottery tickets in common, but it's usually Maynard who is called to buy them.

"But then, I discovered Jackpocket, I tried it and I found that it was good," Couling said.

There is even a private pool feature that allows people to create their own private lottery groups, which has allowed Couling and Maynard to create "brothers". They were the only members and enjoyed the pleasure of playing the lottery on the phone.

"It's so easy to do," Couling said. "Now, Brandon does not have to go to the store all the time."

"It was super easy," said Maynard.

Over the years, the two aircraft mechanics won a few small prizes playing the lottery.

"We won $ 20 here and there," Couling said.

But three weeks after starting to play Jackpocket, friends learned that they had matched 4 numbers and Powerball in the May 15 draw to win $ 50,000.

Maynard had just returned from a cruise and was still on the boat when Couling called to tell them they were sharing the 50/50 price.

"I did not think it was true at first," said Maynard.

The two men went to the Texas Lottery headquarters in Dallas to verify their claim.

"And the next day we get the money," Maynard said.

Both already have plans for money.

"A down payment for a house," said Couling.

Maynard intends to improve his home, but he also has fun. He apologized when he was the last to arrive for a Friday morning teleconference.

"We went to buy a new kayak yesterday," he said. "I just got back from fishing."

And both intend to continue playing Jackpocket, with some modifications.

"We had to create a separate private pool," said Couling, in addition to "brothers. "We do not let anyone join our pool."

After all, Hayward said, the news has been successful.

"We went from seven to both of us last week," he said.
