Biafra: Kanu’s lawyer, Ejiofor reacts as DSS arrests Chiwetalu Agu again

Ifeanyi Ejiofor, counsel to pro-Biafra agitator Nnamdi Kanu, has condemned the arrest of Nollywood veteran Chiwetalu Agu by the Department of State Services, DSS.

Ejiofor said the arrest of Agu by the secret police was an indication of how Nigerian security agents are desecrating the Southeast.

The Nigerian military arrested the Nollywood actor for donning Biafran badges in Onitsha Anambra state.

Agu was arrested Thursday at Upper Iweka Bridge by soldiers while carrying out a charity exercise.

He was, however, released by the Nigerian military and shortly thereafter re-arrested by DSS members on Friday.

Reacting to the development, Ejiofor demanded the immediate and unconditional release of the 65-year-old actor.

He instructed the army to apologize to Agu for violating his basic human rights.

In a statement he released on Saturday, Ejiofor said: “I was shocked to see a respected and very famous former Nollywood Veteran actor who has stood out honorably in the industry being dehumanized and treated as a common criminal. If I may ask, what offense did Agu commit to justify being subjected to such humiliation, torture, inhuman treatment and degradation by those who know little or nothing about our laws?

“Can these savage men, recklessly abusing their functions, tell us why they desecrate our elders and by extension the sacred land of our ancestors?

“Unfortunately, a disturbing information that reached me a few hours ago is that Chief Chiwetalu Agu has been arrested again by the DSS. We hereby call for the immediate and unconditional release of Chief Chiwetalu Agu, from the DSS guard, ”he added.
