Bicol, Philippines: 33 barangays identified as "hotspots" of dengue fever

Officials from the Ministry of Health (DOH-5) in the Bicol region, south-east of Luzon, said 33 barangays (villages) in the region were "hot spots" for dengue fever.

Ernie V. Vera, Regional Director of DOH-5, said the number of dengue cases in the region had jumped 84 percent, from 1,448 to 2,660 from 1 January to 13 July, compared to 1,448 reported to the United States. same period last year.

With the arrival of the monsoon rains, the DOH-5 expects the number to increase.

30 deaths have been reported, mainly children aged 6 to 10, in the first seven months of 2019.
