Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, congratulated Ghana for adopting drone technology to provide essential medical supplies to health facilities across the country.
Last month, Ghana inaugurated the Omenako Center in the Eastern Region, which will serve as a starting point for the distribution of blood and other essential drugs and vaccines by drones to hospitals and other health care facilities.
In a tweet, business mogul and philanthropist congratulated Ghana and Zipline, the company responsible for the installation, operation and maintenance of drones for the implementation of the idea innovative.
He tweeted, "It's amazing to think of the creative way in which we delivered vaccines over the years (even by dog sled, if necessary). Today, a startup called Zipline even uses delivery drones to reach the most remote regions of the world. "
Context
The $ 12 million initiative, known as "Stealing for a Lifetime", will transport special drones from the center of Omenako to deliver essential medical supplies to health facilities in the eastern region , some areas of Ashanti and the Volta, as well Afram Plains.
Built and operated by San Francisco-based Zipline-based drone manufacturer and logistics service provider Zipline, this new service will ensure the urgent delivery of 150 different vaccines, blood products and life-saving drugs on demand.
Three other centers will be built in strategic locations across the country.
