Prince Ned Nwoko alleged that some people were plotting to assassinate him. The former member of the House of Representatives sounded the alarm during a press briefing he organized alongside his wife Regina Daniels on Thursday, February 11 in Abuja.
He said the plot was linked to a piece of land in his community in Delta State where he was setting up a university. He added that a fight over who would become the next king in his community was also another factor.
He explained that the question of who would become the next king had been settled by the elders and that the allotment of the land to him followed due process.
The politician said the assassination plot was exposed on social media by an inmate at Kuje prison in Abuja, who overheard two fellow inmates discussing the plot. He said the case was reported to the Nigerian police.
Nwoko claimed that the inmate, who was later released from prison, received a series of threat messages and mysteriously died after three weeks and an autopsy was in progress.
He said the inmate was able to get the information on social media and that the attention of his wife, Regina, was drawn to it.
“I then reported the matter to the police and the State Security Department (DSS) and they went to question the detainees involved. Detainees mentioned the name of a businessman who deals with the oil and gas industry as a leader.
Speaking further, he said the family of the late detainee would have been at this conference, but out of fear for their lives, they refused to come.
He said that while security around him and his family had been enhanced, the press conference was needed to inform the world of the threat.
