Godsway International Bishop, Bishop Daniel Obinim, has sued the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) for what he calls illegal deductions from his Fidelity Bank account.
The GRA seized the pastor's account due to non-payment of rent taxes from a block of twenty-one stores located in Tema, which he uses as a guest house.
Counsel for the applicant, Ralph Poku-Adusei, in a statement filed on behalf of Bishop Obinim, is seeking nine remedies from the Court.
Among these are "a statement that Obinim paid all the taxes owed and claimed by GRA to the plaintiff in respect of the rents payable on the twenty-one (21) stores for the period 2014 to 2018 and that; he owes no tax corresponding to the sum of 769,095.87 GHC

Bishop Obinim, however, asks for "an order striking and / or striking the Notice of Garnishment issued at 10 am on June 27, 2019 by the Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority.
The Bishop further requests that a non-life order prohibit Fidelity Bank from placing a lien on its bank accounts and from paying to GRA the funds held in its bank accounts and term deposits in accordance with the notice issued .
In addition, Bishop Obinim is asking Fidelity Bank for an order to remove any liens and / or encumbrances on his funds from his bank accounts and any other fixed deposit investments held with the bank.

On December 18, 2018, Ghana's tax authority wrote to Bishop Obinim asking him to pay the amount of GHP 719,890.00 corresponding to the tax payable.
According to the GRA, 28,990.00 GHc represent rent taxes for the period 2014 to 2018 on a block of twenty-one (21) stores located in Tema and owned by Mgr Daniel Obinim.
The remaining 690,900.00 GHc according to the GRA represents the total value-added tax (VAT) levied for the period from 1 January 2016 to 31 July 2018 from the commercial activities of Abroso Guest House Limited, a separate company at limited liability that is not managed by management.
