More people own Bitcoin (BTC) than you think. In a tweet surfaced, Tony Hawk, a legendary skater whose name honors innumerable video game names, claimed to have held cryptographic badets for years.

Responding to a graph that accentuates the parabolic character of the Bitcoin graph, which then looked like a skate ramp, Hawk joked that he "rides" the BTC for "six years", adding that he has not yet cashed his position.

It is unclear to what extent the professional athlete has BTC, but the cryptocurrency has traded well below $ 1,000 for most of 2013, suggesting that Hawk has at least a few dozen pieces.
Hawk's nonsensical response may seem trivial – a polite, octane response to a funny mention on Twitter. But that can have a little meaning.
First, it shows that there are probably countless celebrities in the spotlight of the public who discreetly own Bitcoin. Secondly, and most importantly, the revelation that Hawk is the owner of Bitcoin is another case that proves that mainstream media personalities, important investors and celebrities want and understand the BTC.
And finally, it proves that HODLing through fire and flames can bear fruit, despite what some cynics in the strategy suggest.
Mainstream Media loves Bitcoin … again
This happens as traditional media begin to rent Bitcoin for once, instead of criticizing it.
In a recent article, the Financial Times, which is an important economic news newspaper read by some of the world's leading investors and funds, recently called Bitcoin a "safe haven" potential. As Ari Paul, a cryptocurrency badyst, wrote, Bitcoin began to "gradually enter the traditional financial discourse", which is rather bullish, to put it mildly.
A few days after the publication of this article, Jim Iuorio of CNBC, a CME operator, paid tribute to BTC on public television, revealing that he had begun to recognize cryptocurrency as a viable alternative to the transaction.
And who could forget Tyler Cowen, an economist who frequents the Bloomberg column? In a recent article, Cowen gave four reasons why he believes Bitcoin will succeed, which surprised many people because he was previously cynical about the need for the BTC. A number of these reasons mentioned the viability of Bitcoin as a protection against populism and geopolitical unrest.
Celebrities like crypto, right?
As mentioned above, Hawk's tacit statement of support for Bitcoin and his ilk marks the latest case of celebrities getting dirty with cryptocurrency.
In the world of sport, Hawk joins NFL player Russell Okung and UFC fighter Ben Askren as rookie athletes.
As previously reported by NewsBTC, the aforementioned sportsmen represent only the visible part of the iceberg with regard to celebrities in the crypto space.
