There is a new superhero in the movie mix, and her name is Jaime Reyes, a.k.a. Blue Beetle. DC and Warner Bros. develop a Blue beetle movie, Latino's first autonomous superhero movie, according to The Wrap. Screenwriter of Mexican origin Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer pen the scenario, with Zev Foreman executive producer for Warner Bros.
The Blue Beetle by Jaime Reyes appeared as a comic book in 2006 Infinite Crisis # 3 (and make our list of 20 DC superheroes we still have to see on big or small screens). Reyes at appeared briefly on the small screen of the CW series Smallvilleas well as in animated form in Young justice. As Gregory Ellwood wrote, "Unlike Ted Kord, whom Beetle reminded most moviegoers of the movie Owl Man in guardiansReyes' abilities are provided by the mighty Blue Beetle beetle that has soldered to his back. This turns into a protective suit of armor around him that, if you describe him as an Iron Man alien suit, would not be so misplaced. "

American-Mexican teen Jaime Reyes is the third iteration of the character and, as added The Wrap,[he] discovered the Blue Beetle Beetle on the way back from school with two of his best friends, Paco and Brenda, half buried in an abandoned lot. Reyes took the beetle home, curious to know what it was about. That night, the beetle became alive and grafted to the base of Jaime's spine and provided him with extraterrestrial armor that can be modified to improve his speed and strength, as well as to create weapons, wings and shields.
A few years ago (2015 to be exact), there were rumors of a team film Booster Gold and Blue Beetle, led by the super-producer CW Greg Berlanti. This version would have presented the version of Blue Beetle Ted Kord, which, honestly, we really need. Jamie Reyes gives us something new and different in the crowded superhero landscape. Although there are Latino characters in the DC film universe (as Jay Hernandez like El Diablo in Suicide team, and Rosie Perez like Renee Montoya in the next Birds of prey), it is certainly the first Latin hero to direct a solo film.
