Emiliano Sala's body was officially identified after being transported to Portland Harbor on Thursday, Dorset police said in a statement.
Sala, 28, was en route from Nantes to the west of France on January 21st to make his Cardiff City debut when the plane on which he was traveling disappeared. The single engine Piper Malibu crashed into the sea.
The wreckage was found Sunday following a privately funded underwater search. Dorset police confirmed that the body found on the wreck was Sala's.
"The body transported to Portland Harbor today, Thursday, February 7, 2019, was officially identified by the coroner for Dorset as that of professional footballer Emiliano Sala," read a statement on the police website. Dorset.
"The families of Mr. Sala and pilot David Ibbotson have been informed of this news and will continue to be badisted by specially trained family liaison officers. Our thoughts remain with them in these difficult times.
"HM Coroner will continue to investigate the circumstances of this death, supported by the Dorset police."
Sala had agreed to join the Welsh club Cardiff for a club record of 15 million pounds sterling club French Nantes.
On Saturday, in Cardiff's home game against Bournemouth in the Premier League, Cardiff players presented a t-shirt with the effigy of Sala, who had never played a game for the club, after the team scored in the fifth minute.

Fans received daffodils when they entered the Cardiff City Stadium. In the 28th minute, applause was heard around the stadium as the fans chanted Sala's name.
On January 30, Nantes paid tribute to their former player. The referee Frank Schneider stopped the Ligue 1 match against Saint-Etienne for a minute of applause during which Nantes coach Vahid Halilhodzic was in tears.
