The Bank of Ghana (BoG) Hospital was officially opened for business purposes.
The establishment of the hospital can be attributed to a vision of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana in 1987 to serve the growing number registered at the Bank Clinic.
However, the change of government over the years resulted in the delay in the completion of the hospital.
Taking over the new management of the Bank of Ghana in 2017, the current governor, Dr Ernest Addison, inherited three hospital projects in different stages of completion.
The hospital with a capacity of 65 beds is estimated at 80 million euros.
Bank of Ghana Governor Dr Ernest Addison said the hospital would be of great benefit to the public.
“This was to expand the hospital’s infrastructure gains and respond adequately to the growing population, provide quality health services and create a pleasant environment.”
Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman Manu, who was commissioning the hospital, said the hospital will complement government efforts to achieve universal health coverage.
“What we have done here, as I said, will complement the efforts of the government. We have developed a roadmap to ensure we achieve universal health coverage by 2030, as planned. Ghana seems to be a little ahead of the realization of the UN project. In our roadmap we talk about providing affordable care, easy access, bringing hospitals closer to people and this is what drives agenda 111 of the president trying to set up hospitals where the people are. ”
Deputy Finance Minister John Kumah praised the plan, noting that the state-of-the-art building will reduce seeking overseas medical care.
“By the opportunity this hospital offers the ordinary Ghanaian to receive the best healthcare facility in our country, a world standard facility.” One problem this country grapples with is sometimes when leaders have to be kicked out of our country to receive certain standards of health care, and we believe the BoG Hospital has come at such an important time to address this issue. ”
