The Bank of Ghana (BoG) threatens to sanction some 38 foreign exchange bureaus operating across the country for various regulatory offenses.
In a strong letter to the Ghana Forex Association's Bureau on April 29, the Central Bank said it "noted with great concern the number of violations of the regulations and non-compliance with the Bank's guidelines". .
Violations reported by the BoG include non-submission of monthly prudential reports, non-renewal of the operating license, non-submission of annual audited accounts, unsatisfied site reports as well as those that no longer work. for over two years.
The letter signed by Bernard Ato Otabil, head of the "Supervision Department of Other Financial Institutions" of the BoG, gave May 15 as the deadline for the concerned bureaux de change operators to immediately take the necessary measures to respond to all regulatory requirements.
Those who do not do so within the time allowed risk seeing their foreign exchange office licenses revoked, he warned.
