The new army chief of staff, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru, has assured that Boko Haram’s war on insurgency and other security challenges in the country will soon be a thing of the past.
The army chief gave this assurance on Monday when speaking to reporters during a first on-site assessment visit to the Nigerian army’s Special Super Camp in Ngamdu, Borno State.
He said the rationale for the visit was to learn about the troops’ problems with a view to articulating measures to address them.
“I met with commanders and received briefs, and they told me exactly what their essential requirements were. The emphasis is on military efficiency. We want to end this war as soon as possible, ”he said.
Major General Attahiru noted that the Nigerian military under his leadership will continue to build on the successes recorded under Operation Tura Takai Bango to ensure total annihilation of Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria.
“We are bringing it out because we want to build on the successes recorded in Operation Tura Takai Bango and ensure the total annihilation of Boko Haram in Nigeria,” he said.
To achieve this, Attahiru hinted that the military was working hand in hand with the Republic of Cameroon to wipe out terrorists in Nigeria.
“It’s not only in the North East theater, we are also making sure that our operations are effective in other parts of Nigeria. We will ensure that people do their jobs well, so that insecurity is a thing of the past ”,
Regarding operational challenges, the army chief stressed that challenges that reduce military effectiveness would be addressed as soon as possible.
He also said that “the Commander-in-Chief is very interested in what is happening in the theater of operations in the northeast and indeed in any other theater where our troops are deployed. So that this first-hand information reaches him. We will strive and ensure that the issues are resolved for the overall success of the Nigerian military and Nigeria ”.
Previously, while addressing the more than 200 soldiers at the Special Super Camp, the army chief informed them that over the next two months, a standard rotation plan will be unveiled in order to address the issue of overshooting. the length of stay in the mission area.
“The issue of exceeding the duration of the mission was a major problem. Rest assured that in the next few months we will have a standard rotation plan, that most of you will have to leave the theater and be replaced by other soldiers so that we can continue the war.
“I see this war coming to an end soon, so that we can all go back and stay with our families,” Attahiru said.
