Bono area health workers receive their first COVID vaccines

As part of efforts to protect and secure the lives of frontline health workers, health practitioners in the Bono region have received their first inoculation of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Dr Kofi Amo -Kodieh, Bono Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, told the press that his team had received around 7,500 doses of vaccine to cover more than 8,000 health workers in the region.

He added that another shipment intended to immunize security guards, the media and people with underlying diseases will then be extended to the general public.

Dr Amo-Kodie urged the public to continue to adhere to the health security protocol to save themselves and the lives of others who may not have the chance to be vaccinated, adding that the Region, although she had not registered a large case last year, had had one death. .

This year alone, the Region has recorded more than 1,300 cases with nearly 30 deaths, he said.

He assured the public of the safety of the vaccine as it has been tested and approved to be safe and harmless.

Dr Amo-Kodie said anyone who is vaccinated after going through the registration process will be followed for about 15 minutes to see if there is a reaction before they are allowed to return home.

Dr Ekow Otoo, Bono’s deputy regional director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) in charge of public health, pointed out that taking one dose of the vaccine indicated that the person was partially protected and that another dose in two months will provide full protection against disease.

He asked those who were ready to be vaccinated to drink plenty of water, to eat well to help minimize reactions after the injection.

Dr Otoo mentioned dizziness, headache, vomiting and shoulder swelling as some of the possible reactions and asked the public to expect some of these mild reactions after the vaccine, adding that those who might have felt the reactions for hours and days longer. may visit the nearest hospital for further investigation.

He assured that although taking the vaccine was not mandatory, management was committed to ensuring that everyone is vaccinated to help build the individual’s immunity so that together , the battle of COVID-19 diseases can be won.
