Boston College Libraries have released an iPhone app that leverages LogiXML’s new library data reporting technology to help students find and use library resources. The iPhone app – built using LogiXML’s new product, Logi Insight for Libraries – allows students to view their library records, check the availability of books that have been assigned for classes, and ultimately , will allow students to search for resources in the library catalog. LogiXML, one of the fastest growing business intelligence providers, has developed the technology with a number of leading academic libraries, including Boston College.
“This iPhone application designed with LogiXML helps make library resources more accessible and available to students and faculty,” said Kevin Kidd, director of libraries at Boston College. “Once we installed the LogiXML software, we realized it was very easy to use, and that’s just the start of what we plan to go with. So far we have received very positive feedback from users. “
Boston College worked closely with LogiXML under a charter partnership to develop Logi Insight for libraries. The solution enables libraries to track and analyze the use of library resources that cost millions of dollars each year to maintain, and is designed to help them create budgets that reflect the priorities of their clients. Prior to the development of Logi Insight for libraries, most libraries struggled to access valuable operational data spread across multiple sources. The iPhone application makes part of this data available to students and teachers.
“The rapid proliferation of mobile devices means that the old obsolete practice of billing customers per user will no longer be sustainable,” said Brett Jackson, CEO of LogiXML. “One of the main reasons LogiXML is growing so rapidly is that, unlike our competitors, our products and pricing model are perfectly aligned with how customers like Boston College should use our products.”
LogiXML will showcase the new Logi Insight solution for libraries at the upcoming American Library Association mid-winter meeting January 7-11 in San Diego, California.
