A brawl broke out on Wednesday at the conference of delegates of the New Patriotic Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bono Est region.

The incident saw people believed to be bodyguards of Atebubu Amanteng Chief Municipal Executive (MCE) Edward Ofori, clash with internal party security.

Supporters who accompanied MCE to the scene say they were denied entry to the meeting room at Atebubu Training College, where the event was being held.

Party security had insisted that only the MCE could access it because of his status as a delegate.

But it was not well received by supporters of Mr. Ofori.

However, the misunderstanding escalated into a scuffle between MCE bodyguards and NPP internal security personnel.

A fight ensued as slaps and beatings prevented the MCE men, numbering about eight, from entering the room.

It took the intervention of the police and the army to restore calm.

The joint state security team dragged the bodyguards off the scene.

Meanwhile, Atebubu Amanteng left the scene during the unrest and declined a request for comment on the matter.
