The woman who launched the petition "Revoke Article 50 of Brexit" – which reached this morning four million signatures – said she received death threats.
Margaret Georgiadou, whose name appears on the call for Britain's invitation to stay in the European Union, said she had received three phone calls from people threatening to kill her.
In a tweet, she wrote: "Who wants so much Brexit that they are willing to kill for that?"
While the government is in chaos and hundreds of thousands of people are ready to protest for a public vote, Theresa May faces opposition from her own cabinet.
Mrs. Georgiadou wrote on Twitter: "Hello, I am the person responsible for the petition Revoke Art 50. I just wanted to tell you that 1. I am currently in Cyprus and 2. Last night, I received three threats of death by phone Brexit so much that they are ready to kill for that? "
Under EU law, the UK must ask 27 EU leaders for extensions, but may decide to revoke Brexit unilaterally when it revokes it.
"The government repeatedly claims that the exit of the EU is" the will of the people ".
"We must put an end to this claim by proving the strength of public support to stay within the EU," the petition says.
