Savannah Police have opened investigations to establish the murder of a UK-based journalist on the Tamale-Buipe highway by suspected armed robbers, the portal can report.
Syed Taalay Ahmad Sahib, a reporter for the London-based MTA TV channel, and his colleague Umaru Abdul Hakim were attacked by criminals in Mpaha Junction last Monday while on a mission to film a documentary about the locations where Khalafu had stayed in Africa.
Sadly, Taalay Ahmad was pronounced dead while his colleague was being treated at Tamale University Hospital.
His body was deposited in the hospital morgue, pending the autopsy.
The information collected by the DGN indicates that the deceased and his colleague were accosted around 7 p.m. on Monday, August 23, 2021 around Mpaha Junction by armed men while they were driving in a Toyota Hiace registered GT 7405-16.
The armed men emerged from a nearby bush and opened fire on them by deflating the tires of their vehicle, immobilizing it before firing at their vehicle.
Umaru Abdul Hakim and Taaley Ahmad were shot when the criminals sprayed their bus with bullets before the attackers took away the gadgets and an unspecified sum of money.
Local police rushed to the scene and found the victims in a pool of blood. They were rushed to Buipe Polyclinic before being referred later to Tamale Teaching Hospital for further treatment where Taalay Ahmed was pronounced dead.
